Japan, China to discuss farm import rules after Fukushima disaster

TOKYO, March 17, Kyodo

Japan and China will hold vice ministerial talks Monday in Beijing to discuss Chinese regulations on Japanese farm and fishery imports in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, sources close to the matter said Thursday.

Tokyo will urge Beijing to lift bans imposed on imports of Japanese food after the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex disaster released radioactive material into the environment.

China has banned imports of all kinds of food products from 10 prefectures in Japan including Fukushima Prefecture due to fears of radiation contamination.
