Japan, China plan reciprocal visits by foreign ministers

TOKYO, Feb. 29, Kyodo

Japan and China agreed Monday to arrange reciprocal visits by their foreign ministers and other high-level talks this year in an attempt to improve bilateral relations, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.

Japan's Deputy Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama and Kong Xuanyou, China's assistant foreign minister, confirmed in their talks in Tokyo to start work on scheduling a high-level bilateral economic dialogue and three-way foreign ministerial talks with South Korea, the ministry said.

It would be the first trip to Japan by a Chinese foreign minister since the launch of the government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in 2012.
